Where is my femininity?

Lost: Femininity

Today I decided to find out what it meant to be feminine. I am convinced I didn’t get the memo and I’m not sure if I have suffered for it, although I’m sure I have. Don’t feel sorry for me just yet – I’m certain I share part of the blame here. So before I proceed to stroll down memory lane, stopping and oogling quizzically at my too-big-for my ‘C’ cupped bra chest, and shuddering at my baggy pants and uncombed hair – let me remind myself how many times I said ‘ I did not care’.   (more…)

The Art of Conversation

This is dedicated to Keisha, and Andre. The first people I ever knew to hold productive conversations with strangers.  You have been resources for us all.

It would be naïve to think that the essence of our relationships is based on good looks and smarts, but attractiveness also lies in our ability to communicate with one or more individuals.  Some of us are better at one on one, while others flourish in group settings. I myself find some awkwardness in contributing in a group setting, particularly if there are microcosms of conversations occurring in the same network while you are attempting to speak.

We, the socially inept have a respect for those who are able to find a common ground with the unalike – and are able to take a non-existent relationship into respectable and mutual connection. This is a gift, and is a valuable, if not necessary tool for survival in our society.   After years of careful observation, I have deduced the following groups of conversation participants and key areas of opportunity in order to improve one’s ability to converse.  (more…)

1 MONTH OF BLOGGING!!!

Today I celebrate my first month of blogging and I would like to thank you all for supporting me.  Andre, Nina, Keisha, Deano, Melissa, Raymond, Alana, Tabitha, Marsha, Heather, Michelle, Jamila and Gail – your feedback has been inspiring and has kept me motivated.

For the past few weeks I have been writing more offline than I have in quite some time.  Raymond has invited me to share some of my poetry in his next anthology and that is where my attention has been, so forgive me for my trite postings – but they are still a part of who I am and I enjoy the lightness and the simplicities of everyday life. I do quite enough incessant idealistic pondering, thank you.

I have submitted my entries and look forward to seeing one of my dreams come true …. Hope you will all celebrate with me…even if you hate poetry.

 It can’t kill you.  :  )

Have a fabulous day

Am I missing something?

Filed under: Uncategorized — by dacostad @ 4:36 pm

Am I missing something? It ought to be that one is made aware of the influences of change in one’s community.

No. I am NOT talking about the imaginary ‘black’ community. I am referring to where I live! You know…the town of Malton in the City of Mississauga in the province of Ontario…

My husband and I are noting the subtle changes in the economic community and we are trying to fit together the puzzle pieces to envision the future of our little district.  (more…)

My Mc – DONALDS

Filed under: Uncategorized — by dacostad @ 8:18 pm

Its finally done.

The McDonald’s restaurant down the street has FINALLY re-opened!!!! These last few months have been a horrific time for me. Sigh.

From the moment when the first the yellow tape appeared to the bulldozing event in which they levelled the building… to those cold and lonely nights I spent pining over my snack of serenity.

Its been several healthy months and finally it returns! And grander than EVER before!

Gone are the hills and potholes in the parking lot! Now I might be able to get my mini van through tthe drive-thru without taking off my bumper and oh the spectacle of the PLAYPLACE!

Folks you just have to see it to believe it. Who knew that they had so many ‘M’s’ to spare? There are at least 2 of the symbols on each side of the building. All in all its a marketing beaut.

The architecture puts everything around it to shame. Mind you that does not say much for the intersection of Derry Road and Goreway Drive…

But it sure makes a girl feel good about living in Malton.

Funds for Fast Food

I would like to start a new charity called ‘Funds for Fast Food’.

Here in Toronto, the city of Fine Dining, there is a desperate need to subsidize what USED to be a cheap meal.  Recent experiences have led me to conclude that we, the consumers are continually being conned into thinking we are getting deal – when you in fact we are not!

They have it ALL figured out I tell you. Decrease the GST and raise the base price! Raise the price and then offer a sale to the discounted…ORIGINAL price for Boxing Day! Well I have news for you corporations…we are ON to your scams and we will change our behaviour (eventually) to reap greater rewards. (more…)

Monday MADNESS: You have GOT to be kidding me…

So I woke up this morning and the thought hit me right away. I don’t want to go anywhere. I need more sleep. Last night I was so exhausted that after the SuperBowl I went straight to bed – no ‘House’ no nothing. Just a distant thought remained in my mind…Why would someone name their child ‘Paxico’?

Anyway, 7:00am this morning , I did get up, drop the kids off at school early and got to my desk just in time to realize…wah wah waaah….  (more…)

Vague thoughts

January

It came. It conquered. It left on a cold and crisp winter day.

Enter February: with a merciless winter storm. The Peel District Board has declared a snow day. The children are cheering! I, however – went to work.

January was the month of birthday recognition and celebration. It was also a month of reflection and inspiration. I have committed my self to completing 100 poems by March and I have only 25 so far. I have also committed myself to mastering new recipes and that has been my greatest success.

The highlights were:   (more…)
