Vague thoughts

January

It came. It conquered. It left on a cold and crisp winter day.

Enter February: with a merciless winter storm. The Peel District Board has declared a snow day. The children are cheering! I, however – went to work.

January was the month of birthday recognition and celebration. It was also a month of reflection and inspiration. I have committed my self to completing 100 poems by March and I have only 25 so far. I have also committed myself to mastering new recipes and that has been my greatest success.

The highlights were:

January 1G        Horseradish crusted Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding and red wine infused au jus

And

January 31G        Tilapia with charred Onion (substituted the Mahi-Mahi) , served with parmesan seasoned jasmine rice , hot and spicy ciabatta bread and baba ganoush dip.

I tackled tourtiere after an unforgettable encounter with a bison tourtiere plate at the Kingsbridge Centre. I used ground beef – but you can check the recipe page for the details. Robin Hood makes a great pastry…

I believe that the first and last day of each month should be marked by feasts. Even if dinner is not served till 7:00. This will be my new family tradition for 2008. February is also my Financial strategic planning month. It when I spend endless time creating massive excel spreadsheets to calculate the Financial outlook for my family.

Looks like I’m going to have to take up Bingo in March.

  1. I too have committed myself to trying new recipes this year. This weekend it is going to be Turkey meatballs with fire-roasted chili bbq sauce with sour cream mashed potatoes.
If were up to me I would eat cereal …but the natives are getting restless.
Your month of birthdays has just ended as mine is just rolling in. Four inmediate family, 3 friends. WTH…I guess March will be my month of financial planning. I’ll save bingo for April.
