Am I missing something? It ought to be that one is made aware of the influences of change in one’s community.
No. I am NOT talking about the imaginary ‘black’ community. I am referring to where I live! You know…the town of Malton in the City of Mississauga in the province of Ontario…
My husband and I are noting the subtle changes in the economic community and we are trying to fit together the puzzle pieces to envision the future of our little district.
First.
WHY OH WHY did they close down the McDonalds at Woodbine Centre…at the epicenter of its Children’s Fantasy Fair? Curious…. Eh? And NOW they closed the Shopper’s Drug Mart? That has got to be one of Canada’s most profitable operations (I have no proof of this of course – just taking into consideration their profit margin. Have you ever shopped there? ) They leveled the McDonald’s in Malton (a short drive away) and rebuilt it in Vegas-like splendor. Hmm. The ever lowering prices at the local HBC store…but no outlet sign to be seen…. I bought a pair of shoes for my daughter for $3.00 on Monday.
They were $3.00. Originally $30.00. What KIND of a mark down is that? What is going on? The last inch of grass on Derry is turning into Commercial retail space, and Woodbine racetrack has gotten the go ahead for its $350 million dollars expansion.
I cannot help but wonder, what will my neighbourhood look like in 5 years?? Are they planning on sending out a memo anytime soon? Are we going to be the crappy neighbourhood on the other side of the highway? Our houses are all over 40 years old. Do you think they’ll mow down the trailer park on Derry Road?
Will they ‘revitalize’ us as well? Just wonderin’ is all. Just wonderin.
