When working pays you a penny and costs you a dime

Let’s cut to the chase. I don’t want to have to continuously bring money to work. Many jobs today require us to have money before we even make it – and I just wanted to check to see if anyone else has a problem with it because there seems to be an endless piggy bank supply of loose change at everyone else’s house.

Relationship Checkpoint:  Is he/she a product of disturbed attachment patterns  ?

Yes – I know. You’re probably thinking – “Huh?”

I will explain in layman terms.  Have you ever caught yourself wondering about your significant other– “What is wrong with this person?” Sometimes the person that has the problem is you – sometimes both – but if you find that your mate is exhibiting a pattern of strange and irrational behaviour as you grow more intimate in your relationship (and proximity especially), you might want to think about stopping at Chapters bookstore on your way home from work – or from trying to find a job (don’t want to make assumptions or discriminate) – and pick up a book on Personality Psychology.

We take Parenting courses to help raise perfect little children to become brilliant and well balanced adults and yet there seems to be little emphasis with building and maintaining the intimate relationships with the other person you have those children with…hmmm. Clearly most of us don’t intend on raising those children by ourselves so we would likely prefer to understand ourselves a bit more, and people a bit more by examining WHY people are the way they are in order to learn how to deal with them and how to predict their behaviour under certain situations.   Psychology is by no means a rule book …its more of a  People – for Idiots’ sort of thing – for those of us who think that human beings operate like a toaster; (as long as its plugged in it should work). Not quite so friends. Not quite. So let that be your first lesson for the day.

Happy Birthday Michelle Walker!!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — by dacostad @ 10:51 pm

I feel like a total lurch. Today was the birthday of my friend and mentor, Michelle Walker and I was the first one to forget her birthday. I called bright and early this morning and announced…” I’ll be updating the blog today! (amongst equally unimportant things)” and so I hope to redeem myself somewhat with this post announcing to the world that her birth deserves to be recognized. Michelle, we love you and intend on being around for all your birthdays God willing. May you continue to be blessed as you have been a blessing to us - to me – in so many ways.

Love ya! Denise

Attention international travelers – Customer Service with a smile is not available on morning flights…

So, what’s the deal with the morning crew at Pearson International Airport? Last Thursday I was excited about my trip for two reasons, I would be traveling by plane – without crossing the border first, AND I would be going to see my best friend…in Orlando, Florida (okay that’s really three reasons).

Watching Juno

I’ve had the opportunity for a while…to watch the film ‘Juno’ but couldn’t bring myself to even want to watch it – I was terrified. I often wonder how the abused react to watching abuse on film, or reading about it – being on the outside. I wonder how they respond both emotionally and physiologically. Does it help or hinder their ability to cope?

The Power of Society – Who is in charge here??

I’m sitting in class at 8:30 pm surrounded by a group of young ladies lamenting on the length of the time they’ve spent in school, debating on how they can delay the inevitable endless pit of the working world.

They sweat anxiety at getting a grade below ‘A’ (which I find admirable because they actually know what an ‘A’ looks like on their university transcript – an unfulfilled achievement of my own).  Two are employed, one is in her fifth year, and the next is finishing off a double major in English and Psychology (she is officially my hero), and the big pink elephant in the room gets up from its seat and sits squarely in between us asking   ‘Why are we doing this to ourselves?’
