Wedding Drama – Reality Style

While gazing into the blue-ribbon summer sky, Michelle and I discussed reality shows; particularly those having to do with weddings. We rolled our eyes at the outrageous attempts to capture viewer intrigue. It just isn’t that fun when staged – and then presented as if its supposed to be real. YAWN! We think they’ve missed the mark.  Many of us are witness (or unfortunate participants) to wedding stories with PLENTY of drama. Let’s take my own wedding for instance where

a)      An uninvited guest made a very suggestive speech (which was then booed)

b)      My sister in law didn’t show up

c)      My father in law started off his speech completely discombobulated – saying “During the war….”

Other wedding highlights include one where

a)        The groom was 50 and the bride was 25 – her family pretty much ALL seeing him for the first time and none of his family members present

b)        The same wedding where the manager of the hall tried to collect the money envelopes as collateral for the balance of the hall

c)         Another ‘destination’ wedding where acts of God put the venue out of commission one week before the set date ( the new location was also beautiful and it turned out perfectly)

d)        One wedding…well…a groom was told that he was not liked – by a family member of the bride; after which he proceeded to leave the hall

e)        And of course there are the weddings that just never make it that far – and they come with their own share of drama leading up to and away from the altar

So I see no reason why these shows need to search far and wide to concoct stories that display the unlikely and maladaptive behaviours that people exhibit when preparing for a wedding.  It really and truly happens – all the time, and when it does there is no entertainment like it – I assure you.

Cheers,

Denise
